Manzanero y Yoko Ono Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

“Soy un mexicano de origen maya”, con estas palabras Armando Manzanero se convirtió en el primer músico mexicano que recibe un Grammy en honor a su trayectoria.

El Lifetime Achievement Award es la distinción más alta de la Academia de Grabación, porque reconoce la contribución de los premiados a la historia musical.

Su legado y su creatividad, dice la Academia, continuará influyendo e inspirando a futuras generaciones.

La música de Manzanero comparte ahora el mismo estatus que las canciones de Los Beatles, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Jimmy Hendrix y Bob Marley entre otros.

Dicen que Manzanero, nacido en Yucatán, compuso su primera canción (“Nunca En El Mundo”) a los 15 años.

Tiene hoy 78 años, 63 dedicados a la música y más de 400 canciones, muchas  de las cuales han sido traducidas e interpretadas por cantantes como Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Andrea Bocelli y Christina Aguilera.

Somos Novios (It's Impossible), Contigo Aprendí, Esta Tarde Ví Llover (Yesterday I Heard The Rain)…todas son letras que enamoran y trascienden idioma y cultura.

¿Cuál es su secreto? “Hacerlo con amor y trabajar cada día como si fuera el primero”, dijo al recibir el premio.

Un mexicano reconocido como leyenda musical.

According to the Academy “this award honors performers who have made contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording” and “whose legacies are timeless and legendary, and their creativity will continue to influence and inspire future generations”.

Manzanero’s musical talent now stands next to The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Jimmy Hendrix and Bob Marley just to name a few.

Born in Yucatán, he wrote his first song (“Nunca En El Mundo”) when he was 15 years old. 

He is now 78. His contributions expand over 63 years and 400 songs, many of which have been translated and performed by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Andrea Bocelli and Christina Aguilera, among many others.

Somos Novios (“It’s Impossible”), Contigo Aprendí, Esta Tarde Ví Llover (“Yesterday I Heard The Rain”)…are love songs that go beyond language and cultural barriers.

Manzanero shared his secret (in Spanish) when receiving the award “to do it with love and to work each day as if it was the first”.

A Mexican of Mayan origin is now a musical legend.
