Es una historia triste de amor y duelo. Pero igual de triste es

conmueve tanto. He visto gente que no habla español cantarla como si comprendiera cada letra.
Esta es una canción que definitivamente hace volar el corazón muy por encima del idioma.

A must-know Mexican song. Cucurrucucú Paloma is about love and loss. 

Tells the story of  someone who is inconsolable, waiting for his beloved to return. 

The lyrics say he does nothing but cry … and drink, making the heavens tremble at the sound of his suffering. 

He loved her so that even at death he kept calling for her. He sang ay, ay, ay, ay, ay. He cried ay, ay, ay, ay, ay.  He dies of a broken heart. Mortal passion, to be precise.

But then, continues the song, a dove = paloma turns up at the house, which has been left with its doors wide open.

This dove, the story goes, is nothing but his soul, still waiting for the loved one to return. 

Cucurrucucu now cries the dove. 

Paloma, don't cry, ends the song, stones will never know about love.

Yes, it is a sad one. But so is losing someone, isn’t it? 

And that is why Cucurrucucú Paloma is heartfelt, compelling and popular.

I found an English version. The lyrics are not as close to the original, but the feeling is still there.
