Creo que esta es la primera canción que aprendí... y creo también que todos los días, en algún hogar del mundo, mexicano o no, alguién festeja un cumpleaños al ritmo de esta canción.

Ahí donde haya un mariachi, habrán Mañanitas…donde haya un mexicano, habrán Mañanitas…donde haya alguién que conozca México y disfrute nuestra música, habrán Mañanitas.

Aunque no sepamos con certeza quién escribió  la letra y en qué parte de México se originió, es una canción que se asocia con nuestro país en cualquier parte del mundo.

Buscando en YouTube encontré más de 200,000 resultados.

Las versiones más vistas incluyen una de Alejandro Fernández (17 millones), Topo Gigio (16 millones), Cepillín (11 millones) y Pedro Infante (8 millones).

Además, Las Mañanitas se cantan en cualquier ritmo e idioma.

Las he escuchado con marichis peruanos, colombianos, japoneses, a ritmo de salsa, cumbia y rock.

La letra también varía, pues Las Mañanitas se componen de muchos versos de dónde escoger. Hay Mañanitas románticas, Mañanitas para serenata, Mañanitas para partir el pastel, Mañanitas para la Virgen, Mañanitas para niños. Mañanitas para cualquier cumpleaños.

Y hace poco, por un golpe de curiosidad, encontré que por razones históricas, Las Mañanitas son una canción sumamente popular y sentimental en los países que formaron la antigua Yugoslavia. Ahí la canción se conoce como Mamá Juanita, el nombre del personaje de una película mexicana de los años 50. Pero eso se los cuento otro día....porque hoy es mi cumpleaños.

I think this is the first song I learned…And I also believe that every day, somewhere, in Mexico or abroad, someone celebrates a birthday to the sound of Las Mañanitas.

If there is a Mariachi, there will be Mañanitas…if there is a Mexican, there will be Mañanitas…if there is someone who has been to Mexico and likes our music, there will be Mañanitas.

We may not be sure who wrote the lyrics or where in Mexico the song originated, but one thing we all may agree with is that this song is as Mexican as it gets.

A quick You Tube search brought back over 200,000 results.

The top ranking findings include Alejandro Fernández (17 million views), Topo Gigio (16 million views), Cepillín (11 million) and Pedro Infante (8 million)…and this is just in Spanish.

There are Las Mañanitas sung to the rhythm of salsa, cumbia, rock.

I have heard Las Mañanitas played by Mariachis from Peru, Colombia and Japan, to name a few.

The lyrics also change from one version to the next, because the song is comprised of numerous verses, so each singer can pick and choose to his liking. There are Mañanitas for a romantic birthday, Mañanitas for a serenata, Mañanitas to cut the birthday cake, Mañanitas to sing at church, Mañanitas for children and so on.

And just recently, by chance, I found out that, due to historic reasons, Las Mañanitas are a very popular and emotional song in countries that were part of the former Yugoslavia. In that side of the world, the song is known as Mama Huanita, the female character of a Mexican movie from the 50´s. But that deserves another entry...because today is my birthday.
